Kalanchoe Pinnata has many names all over the globe. Some may know it as the Air Plant, others may have heard of it as the Life Plant or Miracle Leaf, Katakataka,Pather Chat or Paan-futti are yet other names it is known by. It is even known as the Goethe Plant, named after the writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe who along with being a writer was a part time naturalist, who adored the plant. He was amazed at its ability to reproduce in the most strained conditions. Of course it is also known as The Wonder of The World and that is because of the many medicinal uses it has.

I have mentioned before that the Wonder of The World is a plant which helps to ease muscle aches. One simply has to heat the leaf and apply it to the area and the pain will miraculously disappear. If you are suffering from sore feet, having been on them all day, you can add a few leaves to some hot water and soak your feet in this. If you wish you can add the other things that you usually do to your foot soak or you can do it alone. It can also help with headaches, hypertension (that's high blood pressure) easing of rheumatism as well as it can be brewed to make a tea to heal coughs. It is even used to treat kidney stones!

What makes this plant so very amazing is its ability to grow anywhere. if you pick a leaf of the plant and place it within the pages of a book and leave it there, you will be surprised to see, that after a few days, the leaf will begin to start and the life of a new plant has begun in your book! This plant it also able to grow by itself from a leaf simply placed on top of the soil. There is no prepping or planting to do. It is a do-it-yourself plant. No wonder Goethe was so fond of gifting his friends with this plant. Not only is it easy to grow but it cures many ills!

Directions

For headaches: Heat leaf or leaves in microwave or on stove until hot. Place on the forehead as soon as you are able so that there is still a significant amount of heat left in it. Re-warm the leaf accordingly placing it on the forehead repeatedly for at least ten minutes.

For Backaches/ Rheumatism: Heat leaves until hot. Place them as hot as you can bear them on the aching area and lie down on your stomach. If available place a heat pad or a hot water bottle over the leaf so that continuous heat will help it to release its properties. When you are on the go, place the warmed leaf on the sore spot and wrap it so that it stays in place for the day.

For Foot Soaks: Using at least three Wonder of the World leaves, place in basin and fill with hot water. You can also add those bubbles and things that smell nice if you like. Menthol, peppermint or eucalyptus oil is a good one to put in with this. Submerge feet for at least half and hour and for a through treatment, take two other leaves, warm them and put them under your feet and then put a pair of comfy socks on for the night. Let it work its magic while you sleep.

For Styes: Again you must heat the leaf. Place it over the eye for a minute or two, three to six times a day. You can alternate this treatment with a boric solution wash as well. But keeping the leaf over the eye reduces the size and redness of the stye.

I really believe in these God given herbs for our health and well being.

Modern medicine is not all that it is cracked up to be. people are a lot better off taking herbals.

I am going to see if I can find the Wonder of the World plant online, get one and grow it. I can always take it inside during the winter.

Its the middle of winter here, with 27 below the other morning, and these are the days that everyone starts to get the seed books out and dream about their gardens...LOL!

I live in Barbados and I live by this plant. When my 11 year old was not feeling well and coming down with the flu he would go into my garden and pick some leaves steep then and drink the water, chew the leaves up to extract the juice and then disgard of them. It's a really great plant

Hi Sherry! Thanks for commenting:)

The plant really is amazing as it seems to assist in curing many types of ailments. I think that it is only the tip of the iceberg so to speak, though. I am sure that the little plant is capable of much more!

I really believe that this plant beats any medicine one can purchase. I tried it for swelling of my feet particularly around the ankle area. I left the warm leaf for about an hour and by the next day all my pain and swelling was gone. Amazing!!!!

Hello Juan Valdez,

The instructions in my article concerning the treatment of headaches is clearly to heat the leaf and apply it to the head. I never said to drink the tea to treat headaches. People do drink the tea and do not have any bad side effects from it but as with anything it has to do with the amount of leaf used and it (the tea) is not used to treat headaches at all. I am sorry about your mother.

Hi Samuel,

Thanks for adding a name to the list of names that this plant is known as. The name bookleaf makes sense indeed.
